Program
Primary:
ecoENERGY Retrofits – Homes; Home Energy Evaluations
Secondary:
Faith and the Common Good; energy audits for faith buildings (i.e. churches, mosques, etc.)
ecoENERGY Retrofits – Multi Residential Units

Reports to
Executive Director

Overall responsibility
Using sophisticated software and equipment, the Certified Energy Advisor will conduct energy evaluations for homes, faith buildings, and multi-residential units.

Service area includes: Brantford, Norfolk, Haldimand, Hamilton, and Niagara regions. 
 
Background/notes
As a founding member of Green Communities Canada, Green Venture helped to develop the home energy audit program the current ecoENERGY Retrofit – Homes program is built on today.

Green Venture has completed nearly 4,000 home energy audits and have been considered industry leaders in this field since 1997.

Rising energy costs and a heightened awareness of climate change has increased demand energy audits and we are looking to add advisors to our team.

Certification
The following process is required for the candidate to become a Certified Energy Advisor:
• in-person interview conducted by GV;
• 2-hour GCC pre-qualifying test supervised by GV;
• Standard training course (est. at 10 days) including the following modules:
   o ecoENERGY  technical guidelines
   o indoor air quality
   o air tightness testing
   o ventilation
   o inspection protocol and data collection
   o blower door use
   o test houses – modelling houses
   o HOT2000 software input screens
   o formulating upgrade recommendations
   o safety and liability
• conduct 5-10 supervised home audits;
• score 80% or higher grade on an on-line certification test administered by Natural Resources Canada.

Duties
• Conduct energy home evaluations on various building types using sophisticated equipment such as blower doors.
• Keep accurate evaluation notes and accompanying drawings, sketches and photos.
• Use software including HOT2000 input screens to model building energy use and generate customer reports with recommendations for building retrofits and energy savings.
• Keep up to date with the rapid technological advancements in the building science industry.
• Maintain a customer-first focus on program delivery.
• Participate in online technical discussion groups with other advisors across Canada.
• Participate in regular meetings between GV, GCC, other advisors, and trainers.
• Complete additional training as required by Green Venture and Green Communities Canada.

• Energy Coordinator (Customer Service Representative)
• Executive Director
• Green Venture, GCC staff, other CEA.

Terms of employment
• Contract;
   o target is two, two-hour home evaluations per day, five-days per week;
   o follow up report generation typically requires two-hours per report;
   o total time commitment is estimated at 40 hours per week, 50 weeks per year.
• CEA is paid for completed audits and reports.
• Must be willing to work a varying schedule that may include weekend and evenings (but no more than 40 hours per week unless an increase is specifically requested by the CEA).
• Training and equipment costs are covered by Green Venture.

Qualifications
Candidates come from a wide variety of backgrounds, including home inspection, general contracting, energy-efficient product installation, engineers, environmental auditors, etc.
• Proven knowledge and skills in the following areas:
   o building construction practices;
   o building materials (insulation types, sealants, etc.);
   o energy efficient appliances;
   o building science, including the principles of the “house as a system;”
   o use of computers, modems, the Internet and e-mail;
   o basic arithmetic and geometry;
   o client relations (writing and oral customer service skills)
   o blueprint reading.
• Own transportation (mileage is reimbursed)
• Must own a computer and have high-speed internet access
• Good driving record.
• Valid "G" Licence.
